Saluti

SharePoint: Displaying ASP.NET Error Messages instead of the standard WSS error message

Thks to Serge van den Oever

From the online documentation @ http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/spptsdk/html/tsovOMGdlnsShowASPErrors_SV01108995.asp?frame=true:

Displaying ASP.NET Error Messages

You can disable Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services error messaging so that ASP.NET error messages are displayed instead.

To display ASP.NET error messages, perform the following steps:

  • In the Local_Drive:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\60\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS folder, change the name of the global.asax file to global.bak.
  • In the web.config file in the same folder, change customErrors = "On" to customErrors="Off".

That is the stupid thing when you are working with SharePoint for so long: you forget to reread the documentation for new additions! IS TRUE :-(

Two More Sets of Session Slides - SharePoint Tips & SQL'05 BI

thks to Mauro Cardarelli

As promised, here are links to my sessions slides on 'Advanced SharePoint Tips & Tricks' and 'Business Intelligence with SQL Server 2005'.  Thanks to everyone who attended.  The SQL'05 session was especially fun as the attendees asked lots of great questions.  The biggest “WOW” topics seemed to be Business Scorecard Manager and Report Builder.

Microsoft has really done a nice job with the Information Worker tools.  IBF is unbelievable!  As I have stated, it is the Office System “killer app”.  There is a nice connector story here as well as SQL'05 HTTP EndPoints facilitate the Web services construction required for IB enablement..

The Microsoft messaging for the IW's is “discover, analyze, and act”... I think they got this one right!

This model use "acnowledge signal" (a property of Peer To Peer Network) to allow the paradigm of Orchestration between actors.
